Music + Art
Experience immersion in an Architectural Marvel
Throughout history, the cultures with whom we identify revolutionary thought have had one thing in common; a commitment to the creation and public display of art. Large-scale installations and immersive performance art have an intangible but undeniable effect on those who interact with them. We believe that effect is a crucial component of opening participants up to radical thoughts, conversations, and ideas.

Ken Koshio – Taiko Drummers

Ken Koshio – Taiko Drummers

Ken Koshio and the Taiko performers aim to resonate with all individuals and all things in the universe, using the rhythm of taiko to co-exist in the universe through the synergy of our human heartbeats. They pursue a peaceful world while transcending borders through synchrony with nature and the universe.

Ken himself moved to Phoenix and he started to play Japanese music. Because he identified himself as Japanese in his spirit, and since he met many people in the US who admired Japanese culture, and arts, he blended his own culture with his Rock’n Roll career. Beating taiko for the first time in Phoenix he realized this tradition was in his DNA. It has brought him to be the multi-faceted performer he is now.

Spiritual Thing (Soundbath)

Spiritual Thing (Soundbath)

Offering sound healing, unifying global consciousness, and fostering the inherent human harmonies of connection & love, Spiritual Thing provides respite from the dizzying patterns of modern life; with the space to shatter ego & reconnect with Mother Earth & Spirit.

Spiritual Thing is the rebalancing of the subtle energies through the use of an intuitive, lovingly-guided offering of mantra, gongs, monochord, shamanic drums, Tibetan and quartz crystal singing bowls, Native American flutes, lush synthesizer layers, vintage Fender Rhodes electric piano, and ethereal vocal melodies— launched deep into the cosmic abyss with the aid of epic delays, reverb, Moog filters, chorus & phaser FX units.

PAO – Phoenix Afrobeat Orchestra

PAO – Phoenix Afrobeat Orchestra

PAO, or Phoenix Afrobeat Orchestra, is committed to the global unification of all peoples through creativity, collaboration and celebration.

Music was invented/discovered. About 60000 years passed and these Nigerian geniuses Fela and Tony came to LA and fell in love with Black American Music, so they fused it with High Life and Yoruba rhythms to create Afrobeat. The better part of 50 years later, a bunch of Phoenicians began playing Afrobeat. A little after that, you started listening. Then you started dancing. What happens next?

“If there is ultimately some kind of peaceful transition to more generous forms of social organization, music–and improvised music in particular–will play an important role in this process, as it has done in the past.” –Frederic Rzewski

The 3 NOBLE TRUTHS OF PAO are:
.Create
.Collaborate
.Celebrate

Las Chollas Peligrosas

Las Chollas Peligrosas

All-female Phoenix sextet Las Chollas Peligrosas draws upon multiple subgenres of traditional Latin music from Rancheras to Mariachi to Cumbia and everything in between, even hints of Old World Gypsy Folk.

Six-part multi-lingual vocals, accordion, violin, classical guitar, percussion and upright bass deliver a mix of classic standards and inspired original compositions.

Rich with supporting harmonies, all the ladies take the lead at one point or another in the show and much of the subject matter is catalytic, pointed and poignant in true folkloric fashion. In the spirit of their prickly namesake, Las Chollas Peligrosas speak to truth and empowerment in the name of human rights and cultural awareness.

Each member of Las Chollas Peligrosas have arrived from different musical journeys but share a love for this music and the power it has to unite the community and communicate the voice of the people for positive change.

SCULPTURE PARK
Large Scale Sculptures

For the second year of Convergence, the Sculpture Park will pay homage to both “traditional” festival artwork and Arcosanti’s mission of stewardship to the natural environment. This dual focus will take the form of several large-scale interactive sculptures coming from Burning Man 2018 and land art pieces created by half a dozen artists using found natural materials from Arcosanti’s site.

LUNA FLORA
A Climbable Cosmic Installation

Art park curator and Convergence co-found Elana Novali will be presenting her own piece, Luna Flora, a 16 foot tall climbable blooming lotus flower with a metal work moon at her center. This impressive work will serve as a centerpiece to anchor the philosophies of the park, including our collective relationship to Mother Gaia, the cosmos, and to our fellow humans. Participants will be invited to climb up into Luna Flora using steps attached to her base where they will find a safe place in her warm, womb-like interior for connectivity and conversation.
